Raising The Bar
NSO (North State Overland) is an off-road adventure brand that designs, engineers, and produces modular rack systems for Toyota trucks. They were interested in applying a full vehicle wrap to one of their trucks, creating mobile signage that can be displayed at trade shows, on the streets, or even out in the wilderness. We were happy to expand on their existing branding with the introduction of a harmonious color palette, identity application style, and illustration featuring Mount Pisgah.
We Are Asheville NC
Civil Design Concepts of Asheville needed branded materials for their recruitment booth at various college job fairs. 828:design worked to create these background banners, a table wrap, a recruitment web page, a brochure, and give-away coasters. To learn more, visit CDC's careers page.

McGuire, Wood & Bissette is one of the oldest law firms in Asheville. 828:design redesigned the firm's visual identity in 2015 and continues to fulfill their design needs through a number of marketing channels. Navigating Wealth
Black Balsam Wealth Advisors helps map a path for families and businesses to create, preserve, and transfer their wealth. They are partners with Northwestern Mutual, a 160 year old national brand with strict co-branding guidelines that need to be met and approved for use. Our solution adopts familiar navigation imagery to connect the name Black Balsam (a local hiking mecca) and the financial navigation services they offer to their clients.
The New Frontier
The Partnership (Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development) held its first Annual Event since 2019 on September 30th, at Jeter Mountain Farm. What a great event! We worked with the organization to help realize their theme of The New Frontier, which highlights the group's historic efforts to help grow Henderson County's various manufacturing sectors. Our services included the design of their annual report, report envelope, event invitation eblast, and event banner. On to 2022/23!
History In the Making
It has been a pleasure working with the Dry Ridge Historical Museum as they prepare to reopen in a new building at Lake Louise Park in Weaverville this summer. Many facts were learned about Weaverville, Reems Creek, and Flat Creek townships during our deep dive research for the new identity. The selected design incorporates the Dry Ridge, Lake Louise, and the sun into a quilt-pattern-inspired mark.
Your Home Your Office
Your Home Your Office is a website that features products from seven different Sherrill Furniture companies. 828:design worked with Sherrill to create a space that gathers home office products from their different brands. As the workforce adjusts to Covid-19, Sherrill facilitates the search for heirloom home office pieces, while increasing awareness of the entire parent company's offerings. Chalk another one up for 2020! We're NOT excited to announce that our office was recently flooded due to a sprinkler incident. Tom Petruccelli has been elected Education Co-Chair for AIGA Asheville. AIGA is the largest community of design advocates, bringing together practitioners, enthusiasts, and patrons to amplify the voice of design and create the vision for a collective future. Tom is excited to help bridge the gap between students, educators and professionals in the Asheville area.
Spark of Inspiration
It was a pleasure to work on a new identity system for ArtSpace Charter School. It's fulfilling to work with a fun, creative group of people who are open to exploring and molding unique design solutions. The goal for this project was a combination of representing the sparks of inspiration in learning, and embodying the playful spirit of the students and staff that make up the school. We're excited to see how the school continues to grow, and how the new identity fits into their story.
Fun in the Mud
Really excited about the relationship we started with Muddy Sneakers last year to revamp their Pathways newsletter and appeal mailer design. These important pieces keep schools and stakeholders up to date on their goals and accomplishments. So happy to support their mission of experiential outdoor science education for North Carolina 5th Graders.
Happy & Healthy Pets
The Animal Hospital at Reems Creek has been serving the Asheville area since 2003. They recently reached out to us for a new logo and identity system, website, and exterior sign. The hospital is a good example of a client who had a clear vision of their identity but needed a creative partner to make that vision realized. The solution is an organized arrangement of elements to clearly define their name and type of pets they treat.
Make A Mark 2019
828:design recently participated in Asheville’s 2019 Make A Mark “Make-a-Thon” event. The Make-a-thon is a 12-hour design and development marathon benefitting local humanitarian causes. We worked with Jewish Family Services of WNC to redesign their website and bring awareness to the region that the organization offers support to people of all faiths. The new website will launch sometime in December. The team consisted of Chris Hunter from 828:design, Jennifer Drum from Pixel Princes Design, Mike Conrad from ENXO, and Leah Shapiro from JB Media Group.
Commitment to Clear Communication
828:design recently launched a new website for friends at Elly Wells Marketing + Project Management. Their focus is on the environment, arts, healthcare, nonprofits, and family-held businesses. We have partnered with Elly on a number of Asheville clients including Mercy Urgent Care, Roberts & Stevens, Joel Adams and The Hands of Sean Perry. Igniting Creativity with Moog
828:design teamed up with Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation, to create this brochure that highlights the foundation’s creativity and critical thinking mission. They provide hands-on, immersive opportunities for children and adults to explore and engage with the science of sound through Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool and the newly realized Moogseum, opening this Thursday, May 23rd.
Custom Site for Custom Furniture
We’ve launched a new website for Sherrill Furniture, just in time for the 2019 Spring Furniture Market in High Point, North Carolina. The site has multiple custom page layouts and functions to help viewers build their perfect custom furniture pieces. It also tells the hand-crafted Made in USA story of Sherrill and showcases their unique construction process.
What’s {Re}Happening?
828:design is proud to be a sponsor of the 9th Annual ReHappening, hosted by the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center. The event is inspired by “Happenings” that originated at the college nearly 65 years ago. 828 donated design services for the event, in the form of promotional posters, ads, tickets and the event program. Check out the unique event this Saturday, March 30th.
Website Revamp
Lexington Home Brands is a global leader in the design, sourcing, manufacturing and lifestyle marketing of upscale home furnishings. 828:design led their site redesign project which included brand refinements and a site architecture strategy that emphasizes their six unique indoor and outdoor furniture brands. We partnered with E Dreamz who wove our design and front-end development work with Lexington’s extensive product database.
New Asheville Art Museum Visual Identity
While the Asheville Art Museum has been working on its new building renovation and expansion, 828:design has been hard at work creating the new visual identity. The new visual language reinvigorates the Museum’s brand position and reinforces its commitment as the leading art institution in the region. Learn more about the new brand story here. Journey Journal
Journey the World, a new furniture collection by Hickory White, launched at Fall High Point Market. 828:design created the journal-inspired booklet sales aid to communicate the eclectic collection inspired by the spirit of travel. Hand-drawn travel sketches were created by India Miller Designs.
828 put the E in Love
Notice anything different at 68 Haywood St. in downtown Asheville? The Asheville Design Salon created a 156 sq. ft. mural to help liven up the place. Each letter of “Love Asheville” was created by a Salon member, and our letter is the first “E”. Big thanks to Jenny Fares and several Asheville City committees to help pull this off.
Defying Gravity
As part of rebranding Perfect Descent Climbing Systems, 828:design created product graphics for their line of Auto Belays. These superior devices are the official auto belay of the International Federation of Sport Climbing and hand-built in the USA. The rebrand also consisted of logo refinement, color palettes, website redesign, ads, t-shirts, hats, stickers and other swag.
Deltec Homes, Remodeled
828:design recently worked with high-performance and net-zero energy builder Deltec Homes to revitalize their identity and to launch a new print publication. The new identity is simple, modern, and reflects the nature of Deltec’s round home design niche, while also hearkening back to the origins of the company – a roof truss production line known as Delta Technology. The magazine “180°” is an informative piece that highlights many aspects of the company including: a history of the company, current news, featured Deltec owners, sustainable practices, building technologies, and more. The magazine allowed 828 to expand the visual language of the brand through the use of a secondary color palette, new accompanying typefaces, photo treatments, and unique page layouts… styling that can be woven into marketing pieces moving forward.
Asheville Art Museum
828:design had the pleasure of touring the Asheville Art Museum with Executive Director Pam Myers, Communication Manager Jen Swanson and Campaign Manager Rebecca Lynch. The $24 million construction project includes a range of changes to help preserve, renovate and expand the existing space at 2 South Pack Square. We are super excited to be working on the rebranding component of the project, which includes new identity, website, and many ancillary pieces to help launch a new era of the museum.
Simple Joys
Gwynn Valley is a summer camp for boys and girls, founded in 1935 and situated near Brevard, North Carolina. The camp is based on the values of simplicity, acceptance, a non-competitive program, and an appreciation of the natural world. They were in need of a new website that included improved information architecture, mobile responsive layouts, expanded visual branding, and unique content management tools. Special thanks to Andrew Kinnear for his WordPress integration wizardry.
Healthcare. Apps. Design.
Access to valuable healthcare information is critical to closing the gap between treatments and costs. We worked closely with Blue Nine Systems to help create Neptune, a robust healthcare informatics application designed for anesthesiology teams. Countless user-path scenarios and UI versions were considered/designed/developed and tested with teams, to meet the demanding needs of the operating room. The app allows for case coordination, pre-op checks, patient monitoring during surgery, and post-op reporting. The application is currently in the field helping a growing number of hospitals streamline their anesthesiology processes.
Mercy Urgent Care Emerges
Mercy Urgent Care (formerly Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care) has served WNC for over 100 years. This custom website design aims to expand the provider’s new branding efforts and simplify online tasks for their patients. New online check-in, bill pay integration, and site-wide information restructuring offers an overall better user experience. We partnered with Elly Wells Marketing, Bednar Multimedia and Lynne Harty Photography to bring this new site to life.
This Town Works
The town of Canton, NC isn’t afraid to embrace its hardworking, manufacturing past and present. And they weren’t afraid to create a website that reflects their strong work ethic. We were excited to help them realize this bold vision with a site that breaks the mold of the typical municipal website. Thanks to Status Forward for their WordPress development on this one!
Hangin’ Out
828:design is excited to create work for a local company that has international reach and influence. ENO (Eagles Nest Outfitters) has inspired a multitude of customers to explore and enjoy the outdoors. We wanted to inspire the multitude of retailers who sell their products by creating this fun and dynamic 2018 product catalog.
Wild in Africa
828:design enjoys living vicariously through its clients. Wild Rainbow African Safaris allowed us to imagine amazing expeditions through Southern African countries. We were thrilled to work with Jody Cole and her team on their new branding and website. Her safaris offer one-of-a-kind, tailored experiences of “exotic animals, mystical plants, magical birds and the welcoming people who live amidst some of the most breath-taking landscapes in the world.”

828:design partnered with Dykeman Press to design their inaugural book, a memoir by Holocaust survivor and Weaverville, NC resident, Walter Ziffer. Already in its 2nd printing, it’s a Staff Pick at Malaprop’s Book Store in downtown Asheville. We are honored to help tell the story of this amazing life.

Geared Up
828:design had the pleasure of collaborating with Paleo Sun to recreate the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) website. This ExpressionEngine-driven site incorporates several user-controls and custom page layouts. The association required page builder tools and detailed content areas for their Annual meetings and training events. These features include scheduling, session details, sponsors, speaker profiles, and more in-depth user experiences.
New Site for Sitework Studios
If you live in Asheville, you’ve probably appreciated work by Sitework Studios. 828:design recently launched a new website for this landscape architecture firm, located in the River Arts District. We appreciate their designs and we appreciate their willingness to step outside of the normal website convention. The site features a custom navigation scheme and color-coded portfolio. Special thanks to Andrew Kinnear for bringing this site to life in WordPress, with some nice admin controls allowing the client to create their own unique page layouts.

Don’t call it a B&B! This renovated 110+ year old home honors the past and celebrates the contemporary. Minutes walk from downtown Asheville, the hotel offers some unique features worth checking out at their newly designed website bunnhouse.com. 828:design teamed up with Andrew Kinnear of Kinnear Design to pull this scrolling site together.

828:design recently completed identity, print, and web projects for Surgical Colleagues. This dedicated team provides 24/7 coverage to ensure a quick response to surgical patients in the emergency department.
In Full Bloom
Orchids are inspiring subject matter for an identity design project. We had the pleasure of working with Appalachian Tropicals, an orchid boutique and greenhouse offering the region’s largest selection of blooming orchids and air plants. The logo can be seen on many printed pieces including ads, pocket folders, stationery and signage.
Making an Impact
828:design launches online annual report for Niger Delta Partnership Initiative Foundation (NDPI). Teaming up with friends at Bigger Impact, 828 helped communicate the Foundation’s busy year of activities and financial position. The responsive website includes stories about the Foundation’s partners in the Niger Delta and their continued effort to maintain economic growth and security in the region.
Hammock Time!
828 recently completed the ENO (Eagles Nest Outfitters) 2017 retailer product catalog. With a focus on inspiring relaxation in the great outdoors, the catalog includes every ENO product with descriptions, specifications and incredible imagery. Its vibrant cover and square format will inspire the amazing ENO brand followers who are passionate about hammocking.
New Site for Old Wood
828 partnered with Integritive to redesign and develop a new website that highlights the incredible artisan work of The Old Wood Co. The site communicates the tenets of TOWC: custom design and fabrication, Made in USA construction and local artist collaborations. The site highlights residential as well as commercial clients of TOWC including the New Belgium Asheville Liquid Center Tasting Room.

The redesigned Hickory White 2016 Wood & Upholstery Resource Guide includes 384 pages with over 350 items. The guide communicates the unique story and capabilities that make this 100-plus year old furniture brand more vital today than ever.
PICA Awarded to 828
The Olivette Riverside Community and Farm “Twig” brochure designed by 828:design and printed by The Daniels Group, has been awarded a 2016 PICA (Printing Industries of the Carolinas) Award of Excellence. The 16 page brochure communicates the unique branding position of Olivette and features a die cut kraft paper cover, translucent fly sheet and binding of Willow sticks. Big thanks to the Olivette and Daniels Group teams for embracing and executing this award winning marketing tool.

828 has created branding for Olivette, a 346 acre planned community and historic farm along the beautiful French Broad River. View more work here. These business cards were letterpress printed by 7TonCo. and feature a debossed pattern designed as a secondary branding element.
History, Meet Luxury
Within walking distance of downtown Asheville, the Bunn House is a luxury boutique inn situated in a restored 1905 brick mansion. The logo created by 828:design is inspired by the original historic scrolling iron railing.
A Good Hair Day
828:design recently created the new identity for Full Circle Salon. Full Circle is a mainstay in the hair salon scene in downtown Asheville with dedicated, talented stylists and loyal, happy clients.

When Kelly Erin-Spinney (former stuntwoman) and Troy Winterrowd (former Walt Disney Imagineer) teamed up to found Modern Asheville Real Estate, they reached out to 828:design for help creating their identity. The result is a clean, minimal and elegant solution positioning the firm as experts in modern living.

The global power management company, EATON, hired 828:design to concept and design their Low Voltage Switchgear Complete Line Brochure. This piece introduces the line, highlights its uses and benefits, and is available as a digital or print asset for the Eaton Marketing/Sales team.

Who doesn’t love salted caramel? 828:design recently worked with Postre Caramels to craft a brand that reflects their delicious products. Projects include stationery, package design, website design, and more. Ride For Kids
828:design created the 2015 Ride For Kids campaign for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. PBTF is located in Asheville and is the world’s largest non-profit funder of childhood brain tumor research. The project included this year’s theme artwork along with a large number of variable data print materials, to accommodate the many events happening nationwide. Ride For Kids is the foundation’s premiere fundraising event. If you are a motorcyclist, check out the latest news for Asheville’s Ride For Kids event coming up on August 23rd.
Strong Partnerships
828:design recently joined forces with Advocacy Communications International, Inc. to produce print and online annual reports for the Niger Delta Partnership Initiative (NDPI). The reports highlight successful partnerships between the foundation and businesses in Africa’s Niger Delta region. The foundation’s mission is to foster successful, sustainable economic growth and peace building in the delta. The Heat is On
828:design has redesigned the Farnam Custom Products website in collaboration with web developers Paleo Sun. Farnam designs and builds custom heaters used in everything from restroom hand dryers to high-tech medical devices. Best of all, they do it all here in Western North Carolina.
The site includes a series of calculators and a Determine Your Heater part builder, helpful tools custom made by Paleo Sun. 828 relishes opportunities such as this, allowing us to learn, work and create a team to reinvigorate a local brand doing great things.
Sound Effects
We are incredibly pleased to be sponsoring Sound Effects, a benefit for the Asheville Music School and the Paul Thorpe Music Education Fund. If you haven’t been in previous years, be sure to check it out this Thursday, April 9th at ISIS Music Hall and Restaurant. There will be plenty of incredible music with featured musicians River Guerguerian, Chris Rosser, faculty & students of Asheville Music School. Letterpressed
The Buyer’s Agent in Asheville is a unique real estate company that requested a distinctive way to reach potential home buyers. 828 worked with the awesome folks at 7Ton Co. to create this series of three letterpress postcards. A split fountain technique was used to mix yellow and blue inks to create the green color. The postcard back allows a spot to rest your tasty beverage while searching for homes.

828 created the new identity for McGuire, Wood & Bissette Law firm in Asheville, NC. One of the oldest firms in town, MW&B reinvigorated its visual branding to represent the firm’s forward-thinking commitment to innovation, creativity and service.

828:design is thrilled to announce that Chris Hunter has joined Tom Petruccelli and Jim Bixby as a new partner in our graphic design firm. Chris joined 828:design as a Senior Designer in 2006. His work has been critical in the growth of the company and his design and technology expertise have helped propel 828’s reputation in the region. Jim and Tom recognized early on that Chris’s talent and ambition would prove to be an asset and are incredibly pleased to welcome him as an equal partner. “Right from the get-go, Chris’s design sense melded with ours, and over time his dedication to his craft has been inspiring to witness” Petruccelli says. Chris will continue to create innovative design for our clients, but will also focus on new technologies, and new client relationships.
New Year's Resolution
828:design has put New Year’s resolutions into motion a little early! As of December, Hilary Drake of Thrive Yoga Therapy brings an hour of Yoga into our workspace each week, crafting an office-accessible sequence that integrates breath and movement, increasing mental & physical flexibility and strength. The Old Wood Co. Catalog
After working with many American furniture manufactures in the region, 828:design was pleased to create the 2014-2015 catalog for The Old Wood Co., located in the River Arts District in Asheville, NC. We worked closely with founder and designer Darren Green to create a unique look to showcase his uniquely beautiful, handcrafted furniture. The furniture is showing up in residences across the country as well as Starbucks and Panera Bread locations. We collaborated with Creative Cargo Co. for new photography shot at the Old Sherrill’s Inn (circa 1850) on the Hickory Nut Gap Farm.
Lillian August National Advertising
828 has been helping Hickory White distinguish its licensee Lillian August across all media for eight years. Recently, we’ve helped create national ads for Architectural Digest, Traditional Home, luxe Interiors, as well as Veranda. MedStream Site Redesign
MedSteam Anesthesia Solutions wanted to continue our relationship of creating new brand collateral with a redesigned, streamlined web site. The custom icons, on-point messaging and consistency of branding help build on MedStream’s already stellar reputation. A key element of the site is the new client data collection form that streamlines a complicated internal process for lead generation. 828 partnered with PaleoSun to develop the site.

828:design recently completed the identity for Asheville Running Company, a new retail environment located in the River Arts District in Asheville, NC. They are committed to growing the running culture and community of WNC. Run AVL is a sub-brand developed for team sponsorships.
The Oriole Mill Takes Off
828 partnered with ConscioWeb to launch the redesign of The Oriole Mill website. The mill is located in Hendersonville, NC and led by Bethanne Knudson and Stephan Michelson. The Oriole team produces jacquard fabric and craft linens for the home. This new client relationship is a natural fit for us since it combines our many years of working within the home fashion industry with our fondness for being part of the artisanal craft movement. It's {Re}happening, again
For the second year in a row, 828:design is a proud sponsor of {Re}happening . We had a good time designing various marketing materials for the event being put on by the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center and The Media Arts Project (MAP). {Re}Happening pays tribute to the groundbreaking artistic innovation of Black Mountain College as well as its community tradition of Saturday night parties and performances. MAHEC Website redesign
Creating a website that communicates the expansive list of services that Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) offers, as well as capturing its spirit and importance to the Western North Carolina community was quite a challenge. 828, PaleoSun and the MAHEC team collaborated to reinvigorate its web presence.
Celebrating 10 Years
828:design opened for business in 2003. The official 10 year celebration party happened on September 13 (lucky Friday the 13th!) at The Social Lounge and Tapas, across the street from our studio. It was great to share this milestone with some awesome friends and clients. It couldn’t have happened without you! Lots of fun was had with good food and drink. We even printed up some fun shirts as giveaways with our motto: “do great work and be nice to people” It pays off in the end.
Ambassador Fall 2013
828:design recently completed the Fall 2013 Ambassador for Biltmore Estate. The publication keeps passholder members informed about news, events, history and more. 828:design redesigned the Ambassador in 2006, and again in 2008 as part of a larger branding strategy effort.
Neurolab Package Design
828:design teamed up with Neurolab (a division of Saneco International) to create a new Specimen Collection Kit for their doctor’s patients. The design combines brand messaging with an easy-to-follow collection guide and specimen compartment.
FLS Energy Website Redesign
828, Straight Edge Marketing, Springleaf Strategies and the FLS Energy marketing team partnered to create the new flsenergy.com website. The redesign introduces a new overall site look and feel that implements the latest FLS branding elements. The site also integrates new site architecture and content that reinforces the company’s 2013 goals.
A-B Tech Community College Redesign
828 partnered with PaleoSun, Inc. and worked with the dedicated A-B Tech marketing department to create the new A-B Tech desktop and mobile website. The redesign takes a fresh look at A-B Tech while coordinating with the myriad of development and technical needs. The site redesign has won a gold Medallion Award in the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations’ district competition among community colleges in 11 Southeastern states.
Here Comes the Sun
PaleoSun, Inc. an Asheville, NC based web development firm worked with 828 to develop and implement its new branding strategy. The refresh is targeted towards agencies and design firm partners as well as potential clients seeking their talents. The website uses parallax technology to create overlapping imagery and messaging in a single, scrollable experience.
Seven Years in the Making
Senior Designer, Chris Hunter puts the finishing touches on our new office signage. The curved aluminum sign was inspired in part by former property owners, Camille-Alberice PA. After moving into our studio 7 years ago, we kept our signage understated while we were busy keeping our clients looking good. Now 32 Broadway has a little more bling.
Healthcare Partners Patient Portal
828:design completes another project in collaboration with Jeannie Adair of Adair Design, for HealthCare Partners. The patient portal home page pushes HealthCare Partners’ existing branding to a new, inviting level. The user experience allows for a more natural navigation of the patient’s account, and introduces new features like individualized health care resources and family member care management.
828 heads to Boston for HOW Design Live Conference
Tom Petruccelli, Creative Director and Co-founder of 828 recently attended the How Design Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. He brought back to Asheville insights into the trends of mobile device user interface design, web typography and branding strategies. Tom even got to shake hands with legendary designer Kit Hinrichs! 828 attends conferences annually to stay technologically savvy, sharpen our technical and creative skills and forge powerful connections with the designers from around the globe.
Center for Architecture & Design Logo
Chosen amongst design firms across North Carolina, 828 recently created the identity for the new AIA North Carolina Center for Architecture and Design. The center located in Raleigh, NC will be a multifaceted facility promoting architecture among peers, the general public and the legislators of NC. The building’s iconic form served as inspiration. It has been an honor and privilege to work with some of North Carolina’s most talented architects in the development of the logo.
Precedent Furniture Site Redesign
828 recently redesigned the Precedent Furniture website. The site’s design and functionality are targeted at the brand’s core target audience of young, style-driven consumers.
Continued Relationship with Brainline.org
Recently launched BrainLineMilitary.org provides military-specific information and resources on traumatic brain injury to veterans, service members, and their families. Through video, webcasts, articles, personal stories, research briefs, and current news, those whose lives have been affected by TBI can learn more about brain injury symptoms and treatment, rehabilitation, and family issues associated with TBI care and recovery. 828 is honored to help develop a tool for the many proud service members and their families dealing with TBI.
Clean Design
Seeking to increase their presence in the region, Crisp & Clean of Western North Carolina, an established, professional cleaning and personal concierge business worked with 828 to establish a new name and branding. We were so impressed with the level of personal service this company offered that it was pure pleasure to find solutions that set them apart.
Interactive Media Council Award
828 Design gains recognition from the Interactive Media Council for Outstanding Achievement in Educational Web Design, for the redesign of the Adlit.org website. 828 worked to redesign the homepage, the Books and Authors page and the Just for Fun page. We share this award with designer Stephen Chovanec, the original designer of the website.
